不顾户主的反对，在Costco买了传说中的日本马桶盖。户主坚决不支持，放盒子里搁置了4年 -- 有性格，牛！据说现在的新房，马桶旁边都有插座了。像我家这样20年前建的房子，都没有这个feature。YouTube上有分享怎样从墙背面的插座接线的， 怎样从转角墙面的插座接线的， 无奈我家的情况都不适用，最后还是直接拉一根extension cord。在Amazon.ca上找到了 6尺长15A的电源线 。 不错，工作！但是看着有点闹心。。。 在HomeDepot找到CordMate帮我解决了这个问题。塑料管子，背面有不干胶，直接切好贴墙上，安装非常方便。 5' cord channel - $9.27 inside elbow - $3.27 flat elbow - $3.50 Total: $18.13 看着舒坦多了，清爽！ 用户体验：并没有传说中的那么神奇，那么舒服。。。;)

An early winter morning, while my husband was about to get into his car parked outside of the garage, he heard a loud bang, something metal. He paused for a second, then got into the car and drove away. June 9, 2017 Friday My beloved Nexus 5X cannot start up, always stuck on the white Google logo.  Blame the kid first. "What have you installed this time?" Google it secondly. "OMG, poor phone has been bricked! Sorry, Kiddo!"  It has been an issue since 2016. Looks like it is a hardware issue from LG, the manufacturer of 5X. Some also blamed the latest update from Google, which triggered the hardware failure.  Some revived their 5X by doing a factory reset. OK, we should give it a try! Hold Power button + Vol Down: Notice the last line on the screen: DEVICE STATE - locked. That's the death sentence. Select Recovery, then hold Power button + Vol Up should bring up the recovery menu. I couldn't get to that menu! According to one user, put it in the fridge will help, and it surely did. First try out of the fridge brings me the recovery menu. One day I noticed there is a small patch on the maple tree. Couple of days later, it grew bigger. I took a closer look ... ... a patch of wiggling caterpillars! Goosebumps were all over my skin, and I fled away. Then I started wondering, what is the purpose of a caterpillar? After watching this guy's video,  Life Cycle of the Tent Caterpillar , I concluded that caterpillars don't have a purpose. They are bad for plants, and they should be eliminated from my tree! Called the city for help, was told it will take 15 days for someone to come to determine whether this is on city's property. If it is on private land, they will leave it to me. Oh, well. I will remove them myself as long as I don't need to touch them! Here is the solution:  Spray cooking oil on them .  Caterpillars breath through their skin, so oil kills them almost instantly. Half of them felt down, the other half I used a paint stick to scrape them off the trunk. All went to the compost bin! P....

Just completed the process for my three seniors, who all had US Vistor VISA before. I really wish there is a renew process, but no. You need to go through the same steps as a new applicant. The good news is everything went smoothly and they have gotten their passports back with the VISA attached. Step 1. Grandma's Frigidaire Gallery range is over 10 years old, the bake element finally broke down. Option 1 : Buy a new range. After using my sleek smooth touch control panel LG range, grandma hugged her old Frigidaire even tighter. "Touch panel is terrible! I will not give up on those knobs!" LOL Besides, all 5 elements on the glass top work perfectly fine. Option 2 : Repair the old by replacing the broken bake element. YouTube comes to the rescue. Great! Looks straight forward. Let's get working. 1. Turn off the break or unplug the old range.  2. The broken part of the bake element 3. Take off the square fan cover, unscrew 3 long screws. 4. Follow the YouTube video above, take off the bake element, unscrew and pull out the bake element gently. Use the clothes pins to hold the wires in place. Disconnect the two terminals. 5. My favorite stainless coffee mug is getting so flavorful that I think I should give it a deep clean. Add 2 Tbsp baking soda into mug; Pour 1/4 cup white vinegar into mug, enjoy watching the bubbles;  Put the lid on, gently turn the mug so that the inside is rinsed with the solution; With a dish sponge, clean the inside becomes so easy, and the coffee stains come off effortlessly; Raise mug with hot water. It took me 5 minutes to get it as shinny as new. A quick and green way to clean!

我家的炉子是在Sears买的 Kenmore, 才用了7年，后面2个小炉头相继歇菜，点不着了。 今天打算买新炉子，网上一看，最便宜的$1200左右，是不是啊？！老爸的名言一下子在脑海里蹦了出来，“事情都是人做的，人家能做，你也能做，用自己的头想一想。” 妈妈叫上爸爸，一起来修！ 看，后面2个小圈罢工了。 断电。打开烤箱门，炉沿下方有2颗螺丝跟烤箱生在一起的，拆掉一拉，翻起来。内幕如图。 工作的大炉子是这样接线的 罢工的小炉子是这样接线的。插上电源，爸爸用试电笔一检查，2个小炉子都有电，线路没问题。那就是开关使坏了！拆后盖。 后盖上附有详细的电路图。妈妈物理很差的！爸爸没有耐心看。我们还是看实物吧！ 原来是控制器坏了！2个控制器，白色的塑料都烧黑了，还有黑色粉末掉下来。换个这零件应该就可以工作了，抄代码。 空间很小，用镜子照个反相，再用镜子看正面。镜子真是个好东西！ 妈妈一边抄代码，一边自言自语，“这控制器是不是有问题啊？怎么2个都能烧坏了？再买2个来是不是同样下场啊？。。。” 爸爸一边给炉子还原，一边发表意见，“就是！这种2个都坏的情况，我们那 fault tolerance都不能 handle! Design defects!" 哈哈哈。。。fault tolerance, 做 carrier grade telecom的朋友们都懂的。 爸爸妈妈花了一个钟头，手脑并用，到炉子里兜了一圈。最后结论，买新炉子！ 有始有终！坏了的零件是这个，叫做burner switch, 加元$32加税一个。本来想换开关的，爸爸说“你换了这2个，那2个很快也要换！” 冥冥中妈妈觉得乌鸦嘴说的会兑现。算了，买新的！
